Greece - Crete - Malia
The Malia Palace in the northern area of Crete is one of the most breathtaking historical sites on the island, with the modern town of Malia providing the contrast of a jumping nightlife. The ruins of the ancient palace are well preserved, and full of beauty and sophistication at every turn. Tours take you up close and personal with Minoan history as you explore the gorgeous island of Crete, and your feet will do the rest to make your stay in the modern town of Malia a memorable experience.
The first palace built on the Malia site is thought to have been constructed in about 1900 BCE, and later destroyed, probably by an earthquake. The “modern” palace, the remnants of which we see today, was built in 1650 BCE, and is the third largest of the Minoan palaces. This palace was destroyed in 1450 BCE, however the various palace functions including religious, political, and economic functions are all in evidence in this site. Tours at the Malia palace point out the functions of the various parts of the palace, and might even take you to the edges of the ancient town of Malia, where new excavations are being continued to this day.
For those with more of an interest in making history than viewing it, the water park fifteen minutes away will draw you in for thrills of the splashy kind. The nightlife is hot in modern Malia, with a plethora of night clubs, taverns, cafes, hotels, shops and more, all gathered along a bustling strip and ready for a day or night of adventure and fun on this island town. The young and the young at heart will love the nightlife that jumps and booms until sunrise, and then of course, there is the beach.
Three miles of sandy beach and crystal clear water draw water adventurers and ocean lovers to Malia from all over. The hot sun will warm you as you relax the days away and allow yourself to forget the cares of the day under the Mediterranean sunshine. These miles of beautiful beach draw many young people from their teens to early twenties, making the area a little rough on families with children during the peak tourist season in the summer months. For almost everyone else, though, there is a spot of beach with your name on it.
There are plenty of resorts and hotels waiting to accommodate you in Malia, including the Malia Holidays Resort Hotel, Hale Malia Estate Hotel, Esperos Hotel Pansion, and many more resorts and hotels. With the amenities offered at each resort or hotel, and the number of things to do all day (and all night), there will never be a boring moment for you in Malia.
