Koutouloufari is located to the East of Greek Island of Crete. It is a small traditional hillside village of only 600 inhabitants, and is visited year after year by many travelers, especially during July and August. One popular place to stay in Koutouloufari is Marni Village, which is about 10 minutes away. The challenge that some visitors find is the uphill climb back to their lodging at Marni Village from the beach, however the accommodation itself makes it worthwhile. You will find many people stopping in Hersonissos coming to Koutouloufari to escape the nightlife and take advantage of this romantic location having a moonlit dinner. Astra Village Apartments are also a popular place to stay, previously known as the Ikaros Royal Apartments. These apartments are family run and set on the side of a hill, and offer breathtaking view of the sea and the surrounding mountains. You can experience both the traditional Greek atmosphere in this area combined with contemporary conveniences. One place that travelers enjoy is the cafe garden near the Village accommodations. Another option for visitors who stay at the Astra Village or in surrounding accommodations is to visit Piscopiano, which has an authentic Cretan restaurant, another popular activity is horseback riding.
